  • The Presque Isle has two separate cargo holds, allowing it to transport different types of bulk cargo simultaneously. This is an uncommon feature, especially on the Great Lakes.
  • The ship is equipped with a self-unloading system, which allows it to discharge its cargo without relying on shoreside equipment.
  • The barge was built in two sections: bow by DeFoe Shipbuilding in Bay City, Michigan, and cargo section by Erie Marine in Erie, Pennsylvania. The tug was built by Halter Marine of New Orleans, LA
  • It has been lengthened twice, in 1981 and 2006.
